Magnesia-chrome brick” is a incinerator refractory material product primarily composed of magnesium oxide (MgO) and chromium trioxide (Cr2O3), with forsterite and spinel as the main mineral components.

Product Characteristics: It exhibits high refractoriness, strong resistance to alkaline slag erosion, good thermal stability, and a certain level of resistance to acidic slag.

Application Areas: Mainly used in cement rotary kilns, glass furnace regenerators, steelmaking furnace linings, permanent linings for ladles in steel refining, non-ferrous metallurgical furnaces, lime kilns, blast furnaces, and high-temperature refractory linings for kilns, among others.

Physical and Chemical Indicators

Magnesia-chrome brick belongs to the category of alkaline refractory products and is generally produced from sintered magnesia (with a magnesium oxide content ranging between 89% and 92%) and refractory-grade chrome bricks. Due to its impurities, there are silicate bonds between the refractory grains. In domestic terms, what is commonly referred to as magnesia-chrome brick typically denotes the fired common magnesia-chrome brick, also known as a silicate-bonded magnesia-chrome brick or simply magnesia-chrome brick.

Magnesia-chrome brick is primarily composed of forsterite and magnesia-chrome spinel as the main crystal phases and is fired in an oxidizing atmosphere at temperatures between 1600°C and 1800°C. It can also be made without firing using chemical binders like water glass.

Characteristics of magnesia-chrome brick:
  • Refractoriness exceeding 2000°C.
  • Load softening temperature generally above 1550°C.
  • Good high-temperature volume stability.
  • Decent resistance to rapid cooling and heating.
