Application and Development of Unshaped Refractories

The selection factors for refractories, in addition to the price, also need to consider the following factors:

  4. Fast repair speed

Unshaped refractories, also known as bulk refractories, are composed of loose particles and fine powder. They do not need to be fired or shaped before use. They can flexibly change the composition and process of the material according to needs, such as the composition and particle size of refractory materials, the type and amount of binders, the selection and adjustment of additives (such as plasticizers, setting agents, retarding agents, water reducers, etc.), and the diversification of construction methods (casting, ramming, spraying, projection, plastic construction, etc.). This advancement in the brick shape of refractory materials towards larger, irregular, and integral structures is referred to as the second generation of refractory materials.

Unshaped refractories are one of the important basic materials in the application of high-temperature furnace refractory lining technology in the industry. Refractory castables are an important type of unshaped refractory material, characterized by a short supply cycle, not limited by equipment shape, and can be directly used on-site after forming and baking with compatible anchoring devices without pre-firing. Refractory castables can be made into seamless linings, also known as integral refractory materials.
